16 September 2023 is a World Cleanup Day. The first Cleanup Day was organized in Estonia in 2007 and now more than 190 countries are participating to raise waste awareness.
The focus of World Cleanup Day in Estonia this summer and fall is to draw attention to the state of the Baltic Sea as it is one of the most polluted seas in the world.
In Belgium, World Cleanup Day is becoming more and more successful every year. Many districts of Brussels open a cleaning depot to public at 10:00. Laeken is organizing a real “cleaning village” with a range of activities: children’s games, concerts, awareness-raising stands on public cleaning, waste collection, foodtruck etc.
We invite you all to participate in World Cleanup Day in one way or another!
Estonian Embassy in Brussels is also putting together a team. We will gather on 16 September at 10:00 at Jardin de la vallée du Maelbeek. Find a table with an Estonian flag, where we will distribute garbage bags, gloves and tweezers between 10:00 and 10:30. We plan for the cleanup about 2 hours. Trash can be dropped off until 12:00.
Please register your participation with your family/friends by Wednesday, 13 September via registration link HERE (your name + number of family members/friends). This will help us to arrange enough garbage bags and gloves as well as a small snack.
See you on Saturday!
