30 years ago, on the 23rd of August 1989, approximately two million people in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined their hands forming a 600 km long human chain across the three Baltic States, to demonstrate unity in the peaceful call for independence from the occupation.
To commemorate this historic event, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian communities in Belgium are organizing a symbolic 600 meter long human chain connecting the 3 embassies:- Lithuania’s, Latvia’s, Estonia’s. The event will take place at 14:00 on 22nd of September 2019 (car free Sunday) in Brussels.
Come to see a unique action of local communities of Baltic States. The chain starts from Rue Belliard 41 and goes on to rue de la Science and through the square Frere-Orban. The human chain then arrives in front of the Estonian Embassy on Rue Guimard and continues towards avenue des Arts until the Latvian Embassy on Avenue des Arts 23.
At 15.00 Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians gather in Leopold Park to sing and dance!
We invite you to come to join us for an extraordinary Baltic event on a car-free day in Brussels!
